April 6, 2019
The date was April 6, 2019, and the scene was the parking lot of the Mesquite United Methodist Church. It was a beautiful morning and at 6 a.m. a flurry of activity was already in full swing. Vendors were arriving and unloading their goods and the Methodist Men’s group was busily setting up to prepare breakfast in the pavilion. At the same time, the Methodist Women’s group was setting up their area in preparation for displaying the huge variety of home-made baked goods and crafts donated by the church members. Other vendors were setting up their spots looking forward to a morning of selling their wares. It was an awesome sight!
By 7 a.m. the shoppers had started to arrive and a steady stream of visitors continued throughout the morning. The vendors provided a wonderful variety of items, from children’s books to clothing to art work of various kinds. The food served by the men was very good and sold out a bit early. The baked goods, likewise, were very popular. So many of us have a sweet tooth!
Overall, the market was a great success. The weather couldn’t have been lovelier, with bright sunshine and a light breeze. Things went smoothly for the most part. Since this was only our second experience with hosting an event such as this, we are still in a learning mode. Next year should be even better!
Thanks to all who participated. The majority of the proceeds realized by the Methodist Church groups will be used to support various local outreach projects.
