Stephen Ministry Mission, Vision & Core Values

Mesquite United Methodist Church – Stephen Ministry

Mission Statement
Our Mission is to transmit Christ’s love and care to as many of the hurting members of
our congregation and community as possible as they journey from brokenness to
wholeness, bearing witness to the healing transformation possible through the grace of
God.

Vision Statement
Our Vision is to fully equip each Stephen Minister to joyfully and boldly provide help,
hope, and healing care by listening, caring, praying, supporting, and encouraging those
who are in need and hurting.

Core Values
We recognize that we are merely Care Givers and that God is the Cure Giver.
We value high-quality, distinctively Christian lay ministry.
We demonstrate this value by equipping laypeople through training as Stephen Ministers.
We value all people and want each person in our congregation and community to
experience the love of Christ, especially when they are hurting, troubled, or in need.
We demonstrate these values by ministering to the people of our congregation and the
community of Mesquite through Stephen Ministry.

Note: This is the initial statement of mission, vision, and core values for MUMC’s newly reestablished Stephen Ministry. After we have completed one full year as a fully functioning Stephen Ministry (projected to be in early 2028), we will revisit this statement as a group and revise it if a year of experience indicates that it should be changed. For the time being, it is a mixture of thoughts from other churches’ statements and our personal feelings as experienced Stephen Ministers.
